Iowa State University Feral Cat Alliance
ISU Feral Cat Alliance (FCA) is a volunteer, veterinary student organization under the supervision of ISU College of Veterinary Medicine faculty and staff. We are dedicated to serving central Iowa communities by humanely controlling the feral cat population. Our mission is to humanely reduce the feral cat population by using a trap, neuter, and return program (TNR). TNR programs allow feral cat colonies to be humanely trapped by their caretakers and transported to our ISU facility to be surgically sterilized, vaccinated, treated with a topical flea preventative, tested for FeLV/FIV/Heartworm and ear tipped for easy identification of altered status in the future. Afterwards, the cats are returned to their caretakers to be released back into wild (their territory).
We see around 30 cats at each of our regular clinics and 100 cats at our Megaclinic. Each cat is cared for by a team of 4 students who carefully check and monitor it's health status, while performing all of it's vaccinations, etc. These clinics are a fantastic opportunity for ISU veterinary students to build their clinical skills while providing a needed service to the community.

News Update: We were able to spay/neuter and treat 113 cats at our October 4th Mega Clinic! We'd like to send out a huge Thank You to all of the Students, Veterinarians, and Caretakers who participated!
